The Chalet: 'If she fancied him she’d probably use it as an excuse to whip her shirt off '

Welcome to Sunday Times bestselling author Catherine Cooper who has dropped by to tell us all about her novel The Chalet and to give us the lowdown on one of her characters.

While we're waiting for your guest to arrive, Catherine, can you tell us a little about your book?

The Chalet is about two young men ski into a blizzard… but only one returns. Twenty years later four people connected to the missing man find themselves in that same resort. Each has a secret. Two may have blood on their hands. One is a killer-in-waiting.

Someone knows what really happened that day. And somebody will pay.

Who will you be inviting for a cocktail and why?

This is quite a difficult question as most of the characters in both The Chalet and The Chateau, my latest novel, aren’t very nice! I would probably pick Ria from The Chalet as I think she would at least be quite fun on a night out.

What will they be wearing?

She will be relieved to be away from her husband Hugo for the night and not averse to the possibility of some extra-marital action so she’d probably be in something tight and slinky, probably by a high-end designer as her husband is loaded and likes to spoil her.

What will they order from the cocktail menu?

Ria is used to the finer things in life – I think she’d order a Kir Royale to remind her of her time in France, plus she’s quite a classy lady in her way (at least these days) so she’d go for something classic.

How will they react if the waiter spills their drink on them?

If she fancied him she’d probably use it as an excuse to whip her shirt off or similar. Even if she didn’t, I think she’d probably be quite kind about it. She’s from humbler origins, not that she likes to talk about it much, and has probably worked as a waitress at some point herself in the past.

What can they tell you that will make you stay for a second drink?

Ria has a lot of secrets which she’s kept for a very long time – I don’t think she’d be telling me any time soon!
